Indonesia Commends Diplomatic Efforts in Brokering Gaza Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Indonesia has commended the diplomatic efforts of Türkiye, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar in brokering the recent Gaza ceasefire and pledged to take an active role in rebuilding the war-torn enclave.

“Indonesia expresses its appreciation for the mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, and underscores the importance of implementing all provisions of the ceasefire agreement in good faith,” the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in an official statement Friday.

Welcoming the launch of the truce’s initial phase, Jakarta also stressed the urgent need for broad humanitarian access across Gaza, calling on the international community to leverage the ceasefire as a springboard for renewed peace talks.

“Indonesia urged the international community to ‘seize this momentum to resume the peace process in Palestine based on the Two-State Solution and to realize the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and international law.’”

The ceasefire, brokered early Thursday in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, was negotiated between Israel and Hamas with the involvement of Qatar, Egypt, the US, and Türkiye, acting as guarantors.

The 20-point agreement—originally unveiled on Sept. 29 by former U.S. President Donald Trump—calls for the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees, a permanent halt to hostilities, the disarmament of Hamas, and the full reconstruction of Gaza.

Since hostilities escalated in October 2023, Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of nearly 67,200 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children. The sustained offensive has devastated infrastructure across the strip, triggering famine and outbreaks of disease.

Israel has formally approved the first phase of the truce, while Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya stated the group had received assurances that the ceasefire signifies the end of the war.

“The war in Gaza has ended completely,” al-Hayya confirmed.
