Zelensky, Trump Hold Phone Talks on Enhancing Ukraine's Air Defenses

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that he and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation focused on enhancing Ukraine’s air defense systems amid intensified Russian attacks.

“I informed President Trump about Russia's attacks on our energy system, and I appreciate his willingness to support us,” Zelensky stated on X, referring to the recent barrage of missile and drone strikes that crippled power infrastructure across Ukraine.

According to Zelensky, the leaders explored strategies and reached specific understandings to reinforce Ukrainian air defenses. “There are good options and solid ideas” under consideration to further strengthen the country, he added.

The phone call comes just days after emergency blackouts were enforced in Kyiv and nine other regions due to widespread strikes on critical energy facilities.

Meanwhile, at the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated that Moscow remains open to diplomatic negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
