Medvedev pledges full commitments under Russia-N. Korea agreement

(MENAFN) Russia will fully honor its commitments to North Korea under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev confirmed on Saturday during a visit to Pyongyang for talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

“Our relations are now based on a solid legal foundation, an alliance treaty. We assume that we will continue to base our ties on this foundation, steadfastly fulfilling the obligations arising from this treaty,” Medvedev stated on the Russian social platform VK.

The treaty outlines the continuous development of bilateral relations and ensures the provision of military and other forms of assistance if either country faces an armed attack. Medvedev further emphasized the critical importance Moscow places on North Korea’s support for Russia’s ongoing military actions, calling attention to the historic contributions of Korean soldiers during World War II.

“The heroism of the Korean soldiers who helped liberate the Kursk region will forever remain in the memory of Russians,” Medvedev remarked.

Medvedev’s visit to Pyongyang, where he is leading a delegation from the United Russia party, also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea. Earlier this year, during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Pyongyang, Russia and North Korea signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, further solidifying their alliance.
