Indonesia hails Turkey, US, Egypt, Qatar for their part on Gaza truce
(MENAFN) Indonesia has expressed appreciation for the roles played by Türkiye, the US, Egypt, and Qatar in securing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, while also committing to "actively participate" in the region’s reconstruction efforts.
In a statement issued by its Foreign Ministry on Friday, Indonesia acknowledged the critical mediation provided by the four countries, emphasizing the need for all aspects of the ceasefire to be honored in good faith. "Indonesia expresses its appreciation for the mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, and underscores the importance of implementing all provisions of the ceasefire agreement in good faith," the statement said.
The Indonesian government called for the immediate and widespread opening of humanitarian access to Gaza, welcoming the successful initiation of the ceasefire’s "phase one." Furthermore, Jakarta urged the global community to use this opportunity to revive the peace process in Palestine, advocating for a solution based on the Two-State framework and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in line with relevant UN resolutions and international law.
The ceasefire deal, which was brokered in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on Thursday, saw Israel and Hamas agreeing to a 20-point plan that includes the release of Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a permanent ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, and the reconstruction of Gaza. The deal was mediated with the support of Qatar, Egypt, the US, and Türkiye.
Since the beginning of the Israeli attacks on Gaza in October 2023, nearly 67,200 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives. The continuous bombardment has decimated Gaza, making the region largely uninhabitable, with severe famine and outbreaks of disease.
As the first phase of the ceasefire begins, Israel has given its approval. Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya confirmed that the group had received assurances that the agreement would bring the conflict to a complete end.
