Morocco Reaches U-20 World Cup Quarterfinals
Santiago: Morocco's U-20 national football team has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup after defeating South Korea 2-1 in their Round of 16 clash held today in Chile.
Morocco's goals came via an own goal by South Korea's Shin Min-ha in the 8th minute and a strike from Yassir El Zabiri in the 58th. South Korea's Tae Won Kim pulled one back deep into stoppage time (90+6) with a penalty kick.
With this victory, Morocco will face the United States in the quarterfinals. The U.S. team earned their place by defeating Italy 3-0, with Benjamin Cremaschi scoring twice (15, 45+3) and Niko Tsakiris adding a third in the 79th minute.
The winner of the Morocco, USA match will meet the victor of the France, Norway encounter in the semifinals next Wednesday.
This marks Morocco's fourth appearance in the U-20 World Cup, as they aim to surpass their best-ever finish, fourth place in the 2005 edition held in the Netherlands.
