Eurasian Nations Back U.S.-Mediated Gaza Ceasefire Agreement
(MENAFN) Eurasian leaders on Thursday voiced strong support for the newly announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, marking the initial phase of a U.S.-backed plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the breakthrough, emphasizing the significance of the ceasefire and hostage release arrangements brokered through indirect negotiations in Egypt.
“President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed support for the ceasefire agreement reached in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages during indirect talks in Egypt,” presidential spokesperson Ruslan Zheldibay wrote on Telegram.
Zheldibay also highlighted the diplomatic roles played by Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, crediting U.S. President Donald Trump for Washington’s “special contribution” in facilitating progress toward a lasting resolution in the region.
Neighboring Kyrgyzstan echoed the sentiment. In a statement posted on Facebook, presidential press secretary Askat Alagozov affirmed Kyrgyzstan’s support for the ongoing peace process and underscored the country’s adherence to international law.
"The peace initiative of US President Donald Trump, as well as the diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, deserve the full support of the international community," Alagozov stated.
The coordinated statements followed Trump’s announcement on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a comprehensive U.S.-proposed settlement plan.
Originally unveiled on September 29, the 20-point initiative includes the mutual release of hostages and prisoners, an immediate ceasefire, the disarmament of Hamas, and the large-scale reconstruction of Gaza.
The conflict, ongoing since October 2023, has devastated the Palestinian enclave. According to humanitarian figures, nearly 67,200 Palestinians — most of them women and children — have been killed in Israeli attacks.
The sustained bombardment has left Gaza in ruins, with critical infrastructure destroyed, food supplies dwindling, and the population facing widespread starvation and disease.
