Gaza Ceasefire Set to Go into Force Post Signing

(MENAFN) A ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas is set to come into force immediately following a formal signing ceremony on Thursday at noon local time (0900 GMT) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, according to reports from Israeli media outlets.

Israeli media reported that the official signing ceremony will mark the beginning of the ceasefire process. Following the event, the exchange of prisoners between the two sides is scheduled to begin within 72 hours, signaling a critical step toward easing tensions in the region.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Security Cabinet will hold a crucial meeting at 5 pm local time (1400 GMT) on Thursday to approve the ceasefire agreement that was recently negotiated with Hamas, Israeli media stated. This cabinet session is expected to finalize the government’s endorsement of the deal, setting the stage for a possible de-escalation after weeks of conflict.

The swift implementation of the ceasefire and the upcoming prisoner swap highlight urgent efforts by both parties to stabilize the situation and move toward a fragile peace.
