(MENAFN) Containers carrying thousands of Turkish Skydagger kamikaze drones have been delivered to Kosovo ahead of schedule, the country’s prime minister announced on Wednesday. The shipment marks an early fulfillment of a contract with the Turkish manufacturer, the prime minister said in a social media post.

He added that dozens of Kosovo Security Force personnel have already undergone training to operate the systems, which are intended for precision strikes against both moving and stationary targets.

“The contract was signed last December with Baykar, the parent company of the Skydagger manufacturer,” Kurti said, noting that the drones were originally expected to arrive next January but instead were delivered three months ahead of schedule.

Kurti characterized the systems as “combat drones equipped with explosive payloads intended to neutralize enemy targets,” and said their arrival bolsters Kosovo’s defensive posture.

He also highlighted how the new Skydaggers fit into a broader modernization effort: “With this contingent of unmanned aircraft, alongside (Baykar’s) TB2 Bayraktar and (US) Puma systems, we are continuing to build and modernize our military force through new technologies and contemporary combat tactics.”

According to the prime minister, the drones were carried on Rheinmetall 8x8 multifunctional trucks procured last year — 15 in total, with 10 bought by Kosovo and five donated. Officials have not provided a precise count of the drones received or detailed plans for their deployment.
