Sudanese Forces Reclaim Critical Military Installations in El Fasher

(MENAFN) The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced Tuesday that they have reclaimed critical military installations in El Fasher, North Darfur, amid ongoing violent confrontations with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who reported downing a military drone over the city.

According to a statement from the SAF’s 6th Infantry Division, troops regained full control of the Engineer and Signals Battalions’ bases and the Command School after intense fighting that caused "significant losses" in both personnel and equipment for the RSF.

The division highlighted the capture of multiple combat vehicles “in good condition” and fully equipped, while six others, including armored vehicles, were destroyed or set ablaze during the operation.

In addition, the Sudanese Air Force conducted a second successful airdrop in less than a week, delivering food and essential medicines over El Fasher via two aircraft, the division said.

Meanwhile, the RSF claimed in a Tuesday statement that it had shot down a Turkish-made Bayraktar Akinci drone operated by the Sudanese military over El Fasher.

The conflict in El Fasher has escalated since May 2024, with clashes between SAF and allied forces against the RSF intensifying in recent days.

This fighting is part of a larger war that erupted in April 2023 between the SAF and RSF, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions, further deepening Sudan’s humanitarian crisis.
