Richa Shivakoti is the Research Lead on Migration Governance at CERC Migration, Toronto Metropolitan University. Her current research focus is on immigration, emigration, multinational migration, governance of labour migration and gendered migration policies. She has received several research grants, including the SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2025 and 2021), the Bridging Divides Emerging Research Grant (2025), the Open Society Civil Society Scholar grant (2015) and several CERC internal grants.
She is an Associate Editor for the Comparative Migration Studies journal and is on the Editorial Advisory Panel for Public Administration and Development.
Richa has a PhD in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore and a dual Masters in Public Affairs and Political Science from Indiana University, Bloomington. Previously, she has worked and taught at several universities in Canada, USA, Singapore, the Netherlands and Nepal. She has also worked for and consulted with various international organizations such as the International Organization for Migration, the International Labour Organization, the ASEAN Secretariat, the Open Society Foundations and the International Rescue Committee.
