(MENAFN) Ten additional migrants expelled from the United States arrived in Eswatini on Monday as part of Washington's controversial deportation initiative, according to officials from the southern African nation.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Eswatini’s government indicated that the deportees would be placed in a secure facility while plans were made for their eventual return to their respective countries.

The announcement specified, “The nationals who arrived today are in good health and are undergoing admission procedures.”

Authorities mentioned that they were collaborating with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to manage the process.

However, no further information was provided regarding the migrants’ specific nationalities or the reasons behind their removal from the US.

As reported by a media outlet, a US-based attorney, Tin Thanh Nguyen, revealed that the group included three individuals from Vietnam, one from the Philippines, one Cambodian national, along with several others.

Nguyen is also representing another Vietnamese migrant and a Laotian individual who were deported to Eswatini earlier in July.

Recently, Eswatini, along with Rwanda and South Sudan, has accepted deported individuals under the same program.

These groups have included citizens from countries such as Jamaica, Vietnam, and Laos.

In a related development, Uganda announced in August that it had reached a temporary agreement with Washington to host migrants who have no criminal background, although the specifics of the arrangement have not yet been disclosed.
