Athletic Club Intent to Support Palestine Before La Liga Match

(MENAFN) Athletic Club has declared its intention to express solidarity with Palestine before their La Liga encounter with RCD Mallorca on Saturday evening, the Spanish football team announced on Friday.

The club shared in a statement that “Honey Thaljieh, Athletic Club 125th anniversary ambassador, a group of Palestinian refugees in the Basque Country, and representatives from UNRWA will receive a show of support at San Mames before Athletic Club vs RCD Mallorca kicks off.”

The announcement further detailed that on September 21, the Athletic Club Foundation initiated a collaboration with UNRWA Euskadi.

This project, which commenced in October, focuses on assisting Palestinian refugee children residing in Syria. It aims to offer physical education sessions to nearly 8,000 vulnerable children attending 16 schools operated by UNRWA.

UNRWA Euskadi serves as the regional division of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, representing the Basque Country, an autonomous community in Spain.

To highlight the Foundation’s dedication to the Palestinian refugee population, Athletic Club has arranged a modest recognition event scheduled before the match against RCD Mallorca at San Mames.

At this ceremony, the stadium’s video scoreboards will feature the phrase: “Athletic Palestinaren alde. Stop genozidioa’ (Athletic stands with Palestine. Stop the genocide).”
