Israel presumes killing Palestinians in Gaza in spite of truce

(MENAFN) Israeli military operations in Gaza on Saturday killed at least 60 Palestinians, including a young girl, and injured many others, continuing despite US President Donald Trump’s call for an immediate halt to the bombardment, according to reports and medical sources.

Trump had urged Israel on Friday to “stop bombing Gaza immediately” following Hamas’ announcement that it was willing to release Israeli captives under his plan, suggesting the group was “ready for lasting peace.”

In northern Gaza, six Palestinians were killed and others trapped under debris when Israeli airstrikes hit a family home in Gaza City’s al-Tuffah neighborhood, medical sources reported. An additional 17 Palestinians, including seven children, were killed in attacks on nearby residential areas. Other strikes killed one person on al-Yarmouk Street and another, along with several injuries, near a civilian gathering close to al-Sharq Laboratory in the al-Labbabidi area. Across Gaza City, at least 14 more Palestinians were killed in various Israeli airstrikes.

Israeli forces also carried out widespread demolitions using remote-controlled, booby-trapped robots in southern neighborhoods like Sabra and Tel al-Hawa, as well as in Rimal, Nasr, and Beach Camp in the west. Witnesses noted that while tanks pulled back slightly from certain streets, low-flying drones continued to monitor and fire at any movement.

According to reports, Israel’s government approved a plan in August, proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for the gradual reoccupation of Gaza, beginning with Gaza City. A few days later, the military launched a major offensive, destroying homes, high-rise towers, tents for displaced people, and hospitals.
