Kremlin says Putin’s annual Valdai speech is set for Thursday
(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin’s yearly speech at the Valdai Discussion Club, scheduled for Thursday, is drawing worldwide attention, according to Kremlin officials.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin will outline his perspective on an emerging polycentric international system and describe how nations might adjust to this evolving order.
“This is his annual, traditional address. Without exaggeration, the whole world eagerly awaits this speech. As a rule, it turns out to be very substantive and is discussed and analyzed for a long time. We hope that this will also be the case this time,” Peskov told journalists.
The spokesman emphasized that Valdai addresses typically focus on broad, strategic concepts rather than short-term events. Putin has historically used the forum to signal shifts in priorities or convey new perspectives on global matters, often responding to numerous questions following his remarks.
In 2014, shortly after the Western-backed Maidan events in Ukraine, Putin spoke on Russia’s right to safeguard its sovereignty and interests, presenting the country as a counterweight to Western influence while urging cooperation with Washington to support a multipolar world.
Following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, he framed Western actions in Ukraine as an attempt to maintain hegemony. In his 2023 address, Putin highlighted the need to shape a new global future, asserting that Russia “was, is and will be one of the foundations of this new world system.”
