Azerbaijan, Italy discuss energy, education collaboration


(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani President, as well as Sergio Mattarella, the Italian President, lauded the firm growth of the two-sided relations, characterizing them as an extensive and long-term alliance.

During a joint news conference in Baku, Aliyev stated that Mattarella’s second official trip to Azerbaijan proves how strong the relationship between the two nations is. He also noted that the first visit that happened 7 years ago.

He stated that “today’s visit shows that Italian-Azerbaijani relations are developing very successfully and that we are truly strategic partners.”

He pointed out that the two nations have inked two important strategic cooperation deals since 2015, leading to a quick expansion of collaboration into many different sectors.

The president of Azerbaijan noted that Italy’s part in assisting the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which has been exporting Azerbaijani gas to Italy since 2020.

He stated that Italy stays Azerbaijan’s lead trading partner, with oil and gas being an essential part.

He stated that “Azerbaijani oil ranks first in Italy’s oil balance, and Azerbaijani gas ranks second,” he also added that confidence as well as shared comprehension had facilitated the successful completion of these projects.
