Colombia Expels Israeli Diplomats

(MENAFN) Colombian President Gustavo Petro has declared the removal of all remaining Israeli envoys from the country in response to the Israeli Navy's seizure of a flotilla heading to Gaza.

According to Petro’s administration, two Colombian citizens were aboard the captured vessels, prompting a demand for their prompt release.

President Petro stated on X that the Colombians had been “engaged in humanitarian activities in solidarity with Palestine.” He further revealed that Colombia is halting its free trade agreement with Israel as a consequence of the incident.

The flotilla, which departed from Spain the previous month, included participants from over 40 different nations.

Among those apprehended during Israel’s interception on Wednesday evening was prominent Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

Israeli authorities characterized the flotilla as a deliberate “provocation,” claiming its true intention was to support Hamas rather than deliver humanitarian assistance.

The military operation triggered widespread criticism around the world and ignited demonstrations in multiple countries.

In a separate development, the US recently rescinded Petro’s visa after he urged American troops to “disobey” President Donald Trump’s directives.

These remarks were made during Petro’s appearance at the UN General Assembly in New York.
