Israeli Forces Confront Sumud Flotilla

(MENAFN) Israeli military units forcefully struck a vessel that was part of the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, deploying high-pressure water cannons against the convoy and reportedly subjecting its participants to harsh treatment.

The flotilla was on a mission to deliver essential humanitarian relief, including medical assistance, to the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to a post shared on the social platform X by the International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza, “The Israeli occupation is using violence against our ships, deliberately ramming one of them, deploying water cannons, and brutally mistreating peaceful detainees from 50 countries around the world.”

The committee condemned the forceful measures and accused Israeli forces of targeting peaceful activists.

The mission’s organizers made a plea for immediate global action, stressing that “governments must act, as peoples across world capitals are rising in anger.”

They urged the international community to respond swiftly to what they describe as aggressive and unjustified interference.

The flotilla had embarked on its journey at the end of August, carrying primarily aid and medical resources.

It was anticipated to reach Gaza’s shoreline by Thursday morning under typical conditions, had it not been intercepted.
