Shopian- MLA Shopian, Adv Shabir Ahmad Kullay, on Wednesday, urged authorities to take strict measures against what he described as the growing menace of unverified social media activity. Addressing reporters in Shopian, the legislator said the trend of self-styled social media influencers had reached a level where it was“creating a mess everywhere and damaging the sanctity of information.”

Kullay appealed to the Director General of CID and other concerned officials to initiate a thorough process of verifying the credentials of such individuals. He stressed that while social media is an important tool in today's digital age, its misuse by untrained and unaccountable individuals has become a matter of serious concern.

“Many so-called influencers, without any sense of responsibility, circulate baseless and misleading content. This not only confuses the common people but also undermines the efforts of professional journalists who are committed to truth and ethics,” he said.

The MLA said journalism is more than a profession and must be treated as a sacred responsibility towards society.“True journalists act as the voice of the people, highlighting their issues and bridging the gap between the public and the administration. But this noble role is at risk of being overshadowed by a flood of unchecked and misleading content,” Kullay warned.
