Five Canadian Provinces Raise Their Minimum Wage
(MENAFN- Baystreet)
Five of Canada's provinces have increased their minimum wage rates.
Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have each hiked the legally required minimum hourly pay that must be given to workers in the provinces.
Each province tied their increase to Canada's inflation rate which is currently near an annualized 2%.
Ontario's minimum wage is now at $17.60 per hour, while Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are at $16.50 an hour. Manitoba's is $16 an hour and Saskatchewan's is $15.35 an hour.
Following the latest increases, Alberta is the only province that has not raised its minimum wage this year. Alberta's $15-per-hour rate is the lowest in Canada.
British Columbia, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland each lifted their minimum wage rates earlier in 2025.
Labour groups across Canada have been calling for increases to minimum wage rates to help workers keep up with the rising cost of living.
