Kuwaiti Official Urges Greater Pan-Arab Coop. To Fight Cybercrime
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
TUNIS, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- It is imperative for Arab countries to ratchet up cooperation as part of efforts to clamp down on cybercrime, a Kuwaiti official said on Wednesday, citing such acts as having exceeded traditional and geographic boundaries.
Greater cooperation among Arab states entails more information exchange and the ability to develop the skills needed to keep all forms of cybercrime at bay, Kuwaiti interior ministry's cybercrime department assistant chief Colonel Hamad Al Mahmoud told a gathering that joined him with his counterparts from across the wider Arab region.
Given the sharp rise in cybercrime activity, chiefly, financial scams, Arab Interior Ministers Council secretary general Mohammed bin Ali Koman suggested amid the talks forming a unified apparatus designed to fight cybercrime in the region, one that incorporates cutting-edge technology such as Artificial Intelligence tools, he said.
The council has introduced several initiatives aiming to beef up the fight against cybercrime in the region, added the official, mentioning a recently-approved "Arab strategy" to fight cybercrime as a case in point, saying that the plan had been assembled by experts who are well-versed on the matter.
