Germany Authorizes Arms Deliveries to Israel
(MENAFN) The German government has once again authorized arms exports to Israel following a partial suspension linked to Tel Aviv’s ongoing war in Gaza, according to multiple media reports on Wednesday.
Responding to a parliamentary inquiry from the opposition Left Party, the Ministry of Economics confirmed that the value of these arms exports reached at least €2.46 million ($2.89 million).
Officials emphasized that the newly approved shipments involved only "other military equipment" rather than "war weapons," and accounted for a small portion of previously authorized exports. These export permits were issued between September 13 and 22.
Lea Reisner, a Left Party lawmaker and military affairs expert, sharply condemned the government’s renewed approvals. She stated, “The German government is misleading the public with an alleged delivery freeze while continuing to approve millions of dollars' worth of military equipment for Israel.”
Reisner further warned, “This 'freeze' is pure eyewash and can be revoked at will at any time.”
The partial arms embargo was initially introduced on August 8, when Chancellor Friedrich Merz ordered a halt to the delivery of military gear potentially usable in the Gaza conflict. This move was a direct response to Israel’s so-called genocidal war in Gaza.
Germany has been rocked by large-scale protests against its military backing of Israel’s operations in Gaza. On Saturday alone, over 100,000 demonstrators gathered in Berlin, demanding “an end to all military cooperation with Israel.”
