Trump Slams European Allies for Recognizing Palestine
(MENAFN) During a press briefing held at the White House, United States President Donald Trump voiced sharp disapproval toward several European allies for their formal acknowledgment of Palestinian statehood.
This criticism followed actions by countries such as France, the UK, Canada, and Australia, which officially recognized the State of Palestine during last week’s UN General Assembly meeting. Both the United States and Israel have openly condemned these recognitions.
Trump, speaking beside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, remarked, “Several countries have foolishly recognized the Palestinian state. Some of our European friends, allies, good people.”
He suggested these nations may have acted out of frustration, saying, “But they’re really, I think, doing that because they’re very tired of what’s been going on for so many decades.”
In the same press conference, Trump introduced a 20-point proposal aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region.
The blueprint includes the dismantling of Hamas’ armed forces, the exchange of remaining Israeli captives for Palestinian detainees, and the formation of a temporary governing body in Gaza.
Netanyahu expressed appreciation to Trump for maintaining a “firm position that the Palestinian Authority could have no role whatsoever in Gaza.”
He further cautioned that Israel would “finish the job” if Hamas chooses to reject the peace plan.
European governments have defended their decisions, asserting that acknowledging Palestinian statehood reinforces the viability of a two-state solution and may help revive peace efforts in Gaza.
The region has witnessed severe violence, with over 66,000 Palestinians reportedly killed since October 2023.
However, Netanyahu argued that such diplomatic gestures could encourage Hamas to escalate its attacks against Israeli civilians.
