Expert in languages of Asia, especially minority/tribal languages.
13 years experience as field linguist in India, China and Thailand, comprehensively documented several new languages spoken in the Himalayan chain.
Current research concerns the history and evolution of Asian languages, the interaction between Asian languages and Asian cultures, and modernity and the process of language change.
