ORF Takes Over NATO Peacekeeping Duties in Kosovo

(MENAFN) The Turkish Operational Reserve Force (ORF) has officially completed its deployment to Kosovo, becoming part of the ongoing NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeeping initiative, officials confirmed on Sunday.

According to details shared on KFOR’s official social media platforms, the Turkish contingent has been deployed temporarily to participate in a rotational mission under the supervision of NATO.

The new troops have taken over from the Multinational ORF Battalion, following a rotation strategy directed by NATO’s Joint Force Command based in Naples, Italy.

KFOR stated, “The Turkish ORF Battalion will conduct a range of activities alongside other KFOR units, ready to respond to any developments in the security situation.”

The statement further emphasized that these additional forces would “enhance KFOR’s operational flexibility and readiness to respond to evolving security developments.”

KFOR has maintained a presence in Kosovo since June 12, 1999, acting under a United Nations Security Council resolution with the objective of ensuring peace and security in the region.

Presently, the mission includes over 4,500 service members from 33 NATO and partner nations.

Turkish military personnel have been engaged in peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo since the mission’s inception in 1999.

Furthermore, Türkiye is set to assume command of KFOR for a one-year period starting on October 3.
