Pakistan’s Polio Cases Near Thirty in 2025
(MENAFN) Pakistan has confirmed two additional cases of polio in its southern Sindh province, bringing the nation's total to 29 for the year, health authorities reported on Monday.
The National Institute of Health's Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication in Islamabad identified the new cases in Badin and Thatta districts.
According to official data, 18 cases have been reported in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, nine in southern Sindh, and one each in eastern Punjab and northern Gilgit-Baltistan as of 2025.
Earlier this month, a sub-national vaccination drive was carried out in 88 districts, including Badin and Thatta, successfully reaching nearly 21 million children under five years old.
A nationwide vaccination campaign is set to take place from October 13 to 19, targeting the immunization of approximately 45.4 million children. Over 400,000 health workers will administer the oral polio vaccine and vitamin A supplements during this critical effort, officials said.
Pakistan, along with neighboring Afghanistan, remains one of the only two countries worldwide where poliovirus continues to be endemic.
