Denmark Reports New Drone Sightings Over Military Sites
(MENAFN) Denmark reported fresh drone sightings hovering over several Armed Forces locations overnight, just days after closing multiple airports due to unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) incidents, according to local media on Saturday.
Media, citing the Danish Armed Forces, confirmed the presence of drones near several military sites. Although specific details about the number of drones and exact locations were withheld, the broadcaster identified Karup Air Force Station—Denmark’s largest military base, housing around 3,500 personnel—as a hotspot for drone activity on Friday night.
This surge in drone incursions follows a decision by Danish authorities to shut down airspace over several airports late Thursday after detecting drone operations. The closures led to flight diversions and escalated security fears, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen describing the situation as “a hybrid war unfolding on Danish soil.”
While the perpetrators remain unidentified, Frederiksen pointed to Russia as the main threat behind these attacks.
The recent incidents echo tensions in the region, including a suspected Russian drone strike on Polish territory on September 10, which triggered NATO to dispatch fighter jets. Similar accusations have come from Romania and Estonia, all denied by Russia.
