Palestinian envoy labels US veto as “key challenge” to recognize Palestine

(MENAFN) On Thursday, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, the Palestinian Ambassador to Russia, stated that the main issue on the international plan is trying to convince the U.S. to stop using its veto to block resolutions for the Palestinians.

During a press conference in Moscow, Nofal answered a news agency reporter by noting that the United States is the sole permanent member of the UN Security Council that has yet to recognize Palestine.

He stated that "now we face one main challenge—getting the US to stop using its veto against the Palestinian people so that the US becomes an objective mediator.

This is our main challenge now. The four major powers out of five recognize the state of Palestine, with only the USA remaining to do so."

He stressed that any attempts resulting in the U.S. endorsing a political resolution would represent a major advancement, and he added, "and we will work on this in the near future."
