Venezuela Slams U.S. Military Presence in Caribbean Region
(MENAFN) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil issued a stark warning on Monday, claiming that the U.S. military presence in the Caribbean poses a direct threat to the stability of Latin America and the Caribbean, jeopardizing their status as a "zone of peace."
Addressing the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States foreign ministers in New York, Gil argued that U.S. actions not only target Venezuela but also threaten broader regional stability.
"Who could imagine that an attack on our country would not affect its neighbors or the regional economy?" Gil remarked.
The Venezuelan official emphasized that while Venezuela holds no conflict with the U.S., the country faces "an attempted military aggression promoted by political elements" within the U.S. government.
Gil also underscored that President Nicolas Maduro has ordered preventive measures "to prevent this conflict from escalating" and strongly rejected U.S. claims that Venezuela is linked to drug trafficking, calling them "a great lie."
