Roof Collapse Leaves Seven Dead at Pakistan Academy

(MENAFN) At least seven individuals, among them five children, lost their lives and several others were injured when the roof of a private academy gave way in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province on Saturday, police officials reported.

The tragedy occurred in the Hafizabad district, where police chief Atif Nazir Kadhar told the media that the academy’s operator, a woman, and her son were also among those killed.

Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene, conducting search and rescue efforts that resulted in the recovery of seven bodies from the rubble. Several injured victims were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care, according to reports.

An investigation into the collapse has been initiated. Preliminary findings suggest that the recent heavy rains compromised the building's structural integrity, leading to its failure, police chief Atif Nazir Kadhar stated.

The incident comes amid a devastating monsoon season in Pakistan, where over 1,000 fatalities have been reported due to floods caused by heavy rains. The country’s National Disaster Management Authority has confirmed that widespread flooding has submerged low-lying areas, damaged critical infrastructure, and displaced thousands of residents.
