Shooting Leaves Three Officers Dead in Pennsylvania
(MENAFN) Three law enforcement officers lost their lives and two others were injured in a shooting on Wednesday in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, according to state police and local media accounts.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time (1800GMT) when 911 operators received a call about a “police incident” in the township, according to York County Office of Emergency Management spokesperson Ted Czech, as reported by a news outlet.
Officials verified that five officers were struck by gunfire. Three succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining two were transported to a hospital where they are listed in critical but stable condition, Pennsylvania authorities stated, as cited by a news agency.
“This is an absolutely tragic and devastating day in York County and the entire commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” Governor Josh Shapiro declared during a press briefing Wednesday evening.
Law enforcement noted that the officers were pursuing a domestic-related investigation.
“They were there to follow up on an investigation that began yesterday. The general heading of that investigation, I would say, would be domestic-related,” said Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris, speaking to journalists.
He further mentioned that additional information was being withheld until the execution of related search warrants.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was shot and killed by police. The motive behind the attack remains undisclosed.
