Russia Signals Readiness to Strengthen Economic, Energy Ties with U.S.

(MENAFN) Russia signals willingness to strengthen economic and energy relations with the U.S., Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced on Wednesday.

Ryabkov emphasized that Moscow and Washington maintain ongoing communication through multiple channels, with economic matters featuring prominently on the agenda.

"I can mention Sakhalin-1 as the most obvious example of the work that has begun in this area ... However, there are other areas. We are ready to deepen these discussions and are open to practical cooperation," Ryabkov remarked, referencing the oil and gas project on Sakhalin Island.

In a separate statement, the diplomat expressed disappointment with the recent U.S. decision to impose stricter non-immigrant visa requirements for Russian citizens.

Ryabkov noted that this move contradicts earlier efforts to improve bilateral ties and urged the U.S. to reconsider its newly introduced restrictions.

On September 6, the U.S. Department of State revealed updated visa procedures, mandating that Russian nationals apply for non-immigrant visas exclusively at designated U.S. embassies abroad.
