Luxembourg Plans to Recognize Palestinian State This Month

(MENAFN) Luxembourg plans to formally acknowledge Palestine as a sovereign state during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in New York later this month, according to local media reports released Monday.

The announcement was made public by Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel during a briefing with a parliamentary commission, as detailed by the reports. This move aligns Luxembourg with a growing number of nations advocating for Palestinian statehood on the international stage.

This development follows last Friday’s significant decision by the UN General Assembly, which approved a resolution endorsing the “New York Declaration.” The resolution calls for the recognition of Palestine as a state and emphasizes the urgent need to advance a two-state solution to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian war.

The adoption of this declaration marks a critical step in the international community’s efforts to resolve one of the most complex geopolitical disputes, signaling mounting global support for Palestinian sovereignty.
