Sudan Opposes Foreign Interference in Internal Matters
(MENAFN) Sudan on Saturday expressed support for regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and halting attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), while firmly opposing any foreign interference in its internal matters.
“The government of Sudan welcomes any regional or international efforts to assist in ending the war, halting the terrorist attacks of the (RSF) militia on cities and infrastructure, and lifting the siege on cities so that tragedies and crimes committed against the people of Sudan are not repeated again,” the Sudanese Foreign Ministry declared in a statement posted on the US social media platform X.
This announcement followed a joint appeal by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States urging a “humanitarian truce” in Sudan, designed to facilitate rapid humanitarian aid delivery across the war-torn nation.
The ministry emphasized Sudan’s rejection of any “international or regional interference that does not respect Sudan’s sovereignty, its legitimate institutions, and its right to defend its people and land.”
It also lamented the international community’s failure to compel the RSF to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolutions 2736 and 1591, calling on the lifting of the siege on El-Fasher and relief for its civilians, particularly the elderly, women, and children, while enabling unhindered passage for humanitarian convoys.
Since May 2024, El-Fasher has been the scene of fierce clashes between the Sudanese military and RSF forces, despite multiple warnings about the escalating violence in this crucial humanitarian center serving the five Darfur states.
The brutal conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, ongoing since April 2023, has claimed thousands of lives and plunged Sudan into a dire humanitarian crisis.
According to United Nations and local data, over 20,000 people have died, and 15 million have been displaced. However, US-based researchers estimate the death toll could be as high as 130,000.
