Trump Considers Mediating Putin, Zelensky Meeting

(MENAFN) A potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky could occur, but arranging it would be challenging because “they hate each other,” US President Donald Trump stated.

He asserted that his “intervention” would be necessary to bring the two leaders together.

Last month, Trump held a summit with Putin in Alaska, after which he promised to facilitate a meeting between the Russian leader and Zelensky.

During a Sunday visit to the memorial of slain activist Charlie Kirk, Trump told reporters that the animosity between Putin and Zelensky was “unfathomable,” noting that he believed he would need to “do all the talking.”

The US president also highlighted that he had “stopped seven wars” and admitted that he initially expected the Ukraine conflict to “be an easy one for me, but this has turned out to be tough.”

Although no meeting between Putin and Zelensky has been officially confirmed, Trump suggested that discussions could occur “relatively soon,” without providing specifics about the potential format.

“We’re going to get it worked out one way or the other,” he said. “So I’m going to have to get involved.”

Putin has expressed his willingness in principle to meet Zelensky and proposed that the Ukrainian president could travel to Moscow for talks.

Kiev has dismissed the suggestion, saying it would not entertain “deliberately unacceptable proposals.”
