EU Condemns Russian Drone Incursion into Romania

(MENAFN) EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Sunday condemned the intrusion of Russian drones into Romanian airspace, calling it "unacceptable" and cautioning that it endangers regional stability.

"The violation of Romanian airspace by Russian drones is yet another unacceptable breach of an EU Member State's sovereignty," Kallas wrote on the US social media company X. "This continued reckless escalation threatens regional security."

She emphasized the EU's unity with Romania, adding, "I am in close contact with the Romanian government."

Romania's Defense Ministry reported that a Russian drone crossed into its airspace amid an attack on Ukraine, marking the latest in a series of cross-border incidents along NATO’s eastern frontier.

The incident follows similar alerts in Poland earlier this week, when Warsaw deployed fighter jets in response to drone threats near the Ukrainian border.

NATO has recently announced new initiatives to bolster defenses through the establishment of Eastern Sentry.
