Arab leaders gather in Qatar for emergency Arab-Islamic summit

(MENAFN) Reports indicate that Arab leaders began arriving in Qatar on Sunday to participate in an urgent Arab-Islamic summit following an Israeli attack on Doha.

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould El-Ghazaouani landed at Hamad International Airport, where he was received by Qatari Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The UAE’s Minister of State, Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar, also arrived to take part in preparatory meetings of Arab foreign ministers ahead of the main summit.

The emergency gathering was convened by Qatar after an Israeli strike on Tuesday targeted Hamas leadership in the city, killing five group members and a Qatari security officer.

Qatar, alongside the United States and Egypt, has served as a mediator in talks aimed at ending Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, which has claimed over 64,800 lives since October 2023.
