Protests stand together in Australia to draw attention to deaths of journalists in Gaza

(MENAFN) Reports state that around 400 protesters gathered in Brisbane on Sunday to draw attention to the deaths of journalists in Gaza. The rally took place outside the offices of Australia’s public broadcaster, ABC, in the South Bank area.

Many participants wore “press” vests featuring the names of journalists who have been killed, and one attendee handed ABC staff a list of media workers who lost their lives during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Organizers urged the media to increase coverage as the genocide approaches its second anniversary, which began on October 7, 2023.

The event, titled "ABC Stop Silencing Palestine – Rally & March," was organized by Justice for Palestine Magan-djin, a Brisbane-based group supporting Palestinian solidarity. The organizers wrote on the protest’s Facebook page: "ABC you can’t hide, you are covering up genocide! Join us ... Demand the ABC stop providing lip service for genocide!"

They highlighted that Israel has denied journalists entry into Gaza and deliberately targets Palestinian reporters. "More than 270 Palestinian journalists have been murdered by Israel in targeted attacks since October 2023. This is more than four times the number of journalists killed in the entirety of WWII," the group stated.
