Russia, Algeria Strengthen Energy Partnership

(MENAFN) Russia and Algeria have decided to enhance their coordination in the energy domain, committing to tighter collaboration inside OPEC+ and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), in addition to pursuing joint ventures in electricity and resource development, the Russian Energy Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The declaration came after discussions in Algiers between Russian Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin and Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab.

“Among the main priorities that we consider important to promote jointly are the facilitation of free trade in energy resources, technology exchange, protection of critical infrastructure, as well as the expansion of GECF membership and its dialogue partners, including the SCO, APEC, and other forums,” Marshavin stated.

As reported by Moscow’s Energy Ministry, Algeria extended an invitation to Russian firms to take part in forthcoming oil and gas exploration tenders as well as electricity generation initiatives.

During the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) in Algiers, Marshavin engaged with industry leaders, emphasizing prospects for scientific and technical collaboration with Russian companies.

He also congratulated Georges Elombi on his election as Afreximbank President and invited him to join Russian Energy Week 2025, scheduled to be held in Moscow from October 15–17.
