Poland Announces Closure of Border with Belarus for Security Reasons

(MENAFN) Poland is set to fully close its border with Belarus starting at midnight on Thursday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced.

"For national security reasons, we will close the border with Belarus, including railway crossings ... on Thursday at midnight, from Thursday to Friday," Tusk told reporters ahead of a government meeting on Tuesday.

Media reports that the shutdown will affect all border points, with rail crossings also included.

In response, Belarus expressed strong opposition to Poland's decision, particularly during the ongoing Russia-Belarus military exercises, Zapad-2025. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry condemned the closure, summoning Poland’s charge d'affaires, Krzysztof Ozanna, in Minsk to lodge a verbal protest.

The ministry warned that Poland's unilateral action could impact the entire EU-Belarus border, hindering the movement of both people and goods.
