Kashmir Has Huge Destination Wedding Potential: CM
Srinagar- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday highlighted the immense potential of Jammu and Kashmir for destination wedding tourism, saying efforts are underway to position the region as the country's hub for luxury weddings. He made the remarks after inaugurating the Hindusthan-2025 Wedding Planners Expo, organized by the Indian Chamber of Event Industry (ICEI) at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC).
“Jammu and Kashmir is not just a paradise on Earth; it has the potential to become the nation's destination wedding capital,” Omar Abdullah said.“The tagline 'Wed in Kashmir' is more than a slogan-it is a movement to turn the valley's natural beauty into a driver of prosperity, global recognition, and development.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that Kashmir's scenic beauty, from snow-clad peaks in December-January to mustard fields in March, has historically made it a favorite location for Bollywood film shoots, and the government now aims to leverage this reel-worthy landscape for tourism and event planning.
Omar Abdullah said the expo provides an opportunity for local entrepreneurs and artisans to showcase their talent on a national platform while integrating into the growing event management ecosystem. He urged stakeholders to capitalize on the increasing demand for destination weddings, underlining the sector's potential for economic revival and job creation in the region.
