Israel Launches Air Attacks on Multiple Cities in Syria

(MENAFN) Israeli fighter jets launched coordinated air raids across several regions of Syria late Monday, according to a Syrian news agency.

The strikes reportedly targeted strategic sites near the central city of Homs, the coastal hub of Latakia, and the historic desert city of Palmyra. Residents in all three locations reported hearing powerful explosions, though details on casualties or structural damage remain unclear.

Syrian authorities denounced the air raids as “a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter,” asserting that they pose “a direct threat to Syria's sovereignty and regional stability.” Damascus has called on the UN Security Council to intervene and halt what it described as repeated Israeli aggression.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group based in Britain, confirmed the strikes, stating that Israeli warplanes bombed an air force battalion southeast of Homs. Preliminary accounts point to potential casualties.

Additionally, the group said two other strikes hit a military barracks in Latakia, prompting a swift medical response as ambulances rushed to the impacted area. The Observatory further noted that Israeli aircraft entered southern Syrian airspace during the operation.
