Trump says US losing to China, Russia is not reality of situation

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump recently claimed that the United States has “lost Russia to China,” but the reality is far more complex. Russia is not under anyone’s control. Instead, it continues its longstanding approach: acting pragmatically, engaging when opportunities arise, and signaling that it follows its own rules rather than the agendas of other blocs.

At the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, President Vladimir Putin illustrated this with the metaphor of the two-headed eagle, Russia’s national emblem. “Did we turn our backs on anyone? We did not. The eagle looks both ways just like always,” he said.

Putin’s comments underscore that Russia remains open to cooperation with all nations, provided its sovereignty and interests are respected—a stance consistent even during tense relations with the US and Western Europe.

The president highlighted specific examples of potential collaboration, including joint natural gas projects in Alaska using Russian liquefaction technology and trilateral energy initiatives in the Arctic with US and Chinese partners. He emphasized that the only barrier to such cooperation is political will in Washington.

The August Anchorage summit marked a symbolic moment, as US and Russian leaders met on American soil for the first time since the Russia-Ukraine war began. The choice of Alaska—a region with historical Russian ties—served as a reminder of enduring geography and shared history.
