Denmark Prepares Joining Military Drills in Greenland
(MENAFN) Denmark will commence a defense exercise in Greenland on Tuesday in collaboration with partners, aiming to boost the operational preparedness of both the Danish Armed Forces and NATO within and around the Arctic territory.
The Danish Ministry of Defense announced on its official site that the exercise, titled Arctic Light 2025, will last until Sept. 19.
Throughout this period, Danish troops will conduct training operations together with units from other NATO member states.
"Due to increased focus on the security situation in the Arctic, the Danish Armed Forces are enhancing their military presence and level of activity in and around Greenland," the ministry stated, noting that the initiative is led by the Joint Arctic Command and coordinated with Greenland’s government.
The ministry highlighted that Arctic Light 2025 aims to reinforce the collective response capacity of NATO partners against destabilizing risks directed toward Greenland, Denmark, and NATO across the North Atlantic and Arctic zones.
The drills will include participation from France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway, with over 550 military personnel expected.
As part of the operation, Denmark will deploy the frigate Niels Juel, two EH-101 helicopters, two F-16 fighter jets, along with contributions from all three military branches, including elite special forces and the Danish Home Guard, the statement said.
