Irfaan Ali Re-Elected as Guyana’s President for Second Term


(MENAFN) Irfaan Ali officially began his second term as president of Guyana on Sunday, following a formal swearing-in ceremony held at the presidential residence in Georgetown, the nation’s capital, local authorities confirmed.

Ali, representing the People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), secured re-election in the general election conducted on September 1, according to the Guyana Elections Commission. His victory marks a continuation of leadership for the PPP/C after a closely watched and highly contested electoral process.

The election results highlighted a decisive win for the PPP/C, which claimed 36 seats in the National Assembly. The main opposition party, the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) – known as the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) coalition, won 16 seats. Meanwhile, the alliance A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) secured 12 seats, and the Forward Guyana Movement captured one seat.
