Basil Tucker PhD, MBA, B Bus, CPA is currently a senior lecturer in the School of Commerce, UniSA Business School. He received his doctorate which investigated the relationship between management control and strategy in 2008. His research interests focus on the relevance of academic research, and in particular, the research-practice“gap” in management accounting, management control and how it supports and influences corporate strategy, how management control systems combine with informal modes of control, and in particular, how informal control is transmitted and maintained within organisations.
Basil has published in some of the top academic journals in the accounting field including; Journal of Management Accounting Research, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Journal of Accounting Literature, Accounting & Business Research, Financial Accountability & Management, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Qualitative Research in Accounting & Management, and Non-profit Management and Leadership.
He has presented papers at the American Accounting Association, European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management, British Accounting Association, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ), and Asia-Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting, and has received research grants from AFAANZ, The Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, CPA (Australia), and the Institute of Public Administration Australia.
Prior to entering academia, Basil had been a management consultant – firstly with an international consulting firm, and then with a South Australian based practice. He has over twelve years consulting experience and has undertaken assignments with more than 120 organisations in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Basil's career experience also includes working in the not-for-profit, healthcare, media and manufacturing industries. He has been a member of the Board of Management of several South Australian organisations and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Company Directors Course.
