Teen Arrested Over Sydney Train Station Knife Attack
(MENAFN) A 17-year-old has been formally charged in connection with a violent stabbing that critically injured a boy at a western Sydney train station, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
According to New South Wales (NSW) Police, emergency services responded to a distress call at Merrylands railway station, located about 20 kilometers west of Sydney’s city center, at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
Upon arrival, paramedics found a 16-year-old male suffering from serious stab wounds. He received immediate treatment at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition as of Wednesday morning.
Detectives believe the victim had a brief encounter with two unknown males prior to the attack. The suspects reportedly fled the scene after the assault.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 17-year-old male presented himself at a local police station and was taken into custody. He now faces seven charges, including wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, being armed with intent to commit a serious offense, and using a knife in a public place.
The accused was denied bail and is scheduled to appear before a children's court on Wednesday.
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing, according to NSW Police.
