Latvia Tightens Entry Rules For Third-Country Nationals
Riga: New, stricter entry requirements for third-country nationals took effect in Latvia on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said.
The regulation does not apply to travelers from the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and Brazil, nor to persons with diplomatic immunity and certain other categories.
Foreigners from all other countries seeking a Latvian visa or temporary residence permit must now submit information on their travel purpose, itinerary, accommodation, contact details, and professional or political background to the State Threat Prevention Information System at gov at least 48 hours before arrival.
According to the ministry, the amendments to the immigration law are intended to bolster national security and enhance border protection by identifying potential risks.
