President Inspects Katchatheevu Island Days After Vijay's Demand
The President's media division said that the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala and Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Commander Northern Naval Area joined the President on this visit.
Vijay had recently called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reclaim Katchatheevu island from Sri Lanka.
However, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath had later said that Katchatheevu island belongs to Sri Lanka and will remain with Sri Lanka.
He said that Vijay, like several other Tamil Nadu politicians in the past, was making such statements with elections in mind.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said that there has not been any diplomatic move from India to try and reclaim Katchatheevu.
