Famine In Gaza Is Man-Made - UK Foreign Secretary
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the famine in Gaza as "man-made," referring to the systematic starvation imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Palestinians.
During a session in the House of Commons, Lammy expressed outrage over Israel's refusal to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.
He stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive humanitarian response to prevent further deaths in the besieged Gaza Strip.
He added that this is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli occupation government's refusal to permit sufficient aid is deeply infuriating. He warned of worsening conditions in Gaza if necessary measures are not taken, noting that more than 300 people, including 119 children, have died from malnutrition since July 1.
Lammy announced that the UK will provide an additional £15 million in aid and medical care to Palestinians in Gaza. He also highlighted efforts to bring more injured children and those suffering from serious illnesses from Gaza to Britain for treatment.
He confirmed that if no progress is made toward a ceasefire in Gaza, the UK would take steps to recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September.
