Romania’s Dan Air adds flights to travel from Aleppo to Syria, vise versa

(MENAFN) Romania’s Dan Air is set to expand its operations in Syria by launching flights between Bucharest and Aleppo starting Sept. 25, media reports indicated Tuesday.

The Bucharest–Aleppo–Bucharest route will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, using an Airbus A319 with 144 seats, a Romanian news agency reported.

This move follows the airline’s inauguration of the Bucharest–Damascus–Bucharest route on June 15. The new Aleppo flights come after Romania and Syria signed bilateral agreements, with the Transport Ministry granting official designation to the airline and Syrian authorities providing approval at the end of August, according to Dan Air.

"After the launch of flights to Damascus, many passengers requested this route, which clearly shows that the need for transport and connectivity in this region is vital," Dan Air CEO Matt Ian David told the news agency.

"Syria needs to reconnect with the world, and each route opened is a bridge for people, for business, and for the reconstruction process," he added.

Since launching the Bucharest–Damascus route, Dan Air has carried more than 11,000 passengers, the airline said.
